Abstract

Islamic beliefs mandate the consumption of halal food. Muslim jurists have worked tirelessly to provide Muslims with guidelines and foundational ideas based on Hadiths and verses from the Quran. Islamic history contains examples of halal standardization, such as stamping from the time of Hazrat Usman (رضي الله عنه) which used certain indicators to distinguish between halal and haram. Governments have begun to take an interest in Halal Standardization since the advent of contemporary techniques and technology. Nowadays, one of the biggest industries in the world is halal standardization, and one of its main components is the standardization of food. Given that Pakistan adheres to the Hanafi and Shafi schools of Islamic law, this study sheds light on how these schools' legal rulings impact standards in Pakistan. Using a few examples of standards and an examination of how these distinctions really expand the scope of standardization, the essay attempts to explore the nature of the juristic differences between Hanafi and Shafi.
