The Establishment and Impact of Sirah Chairs in Pakistani Universities:An introduction and analysis
Abstract
Almighty Allah has put every Muslim under an obligation, to know and follow the beloved Prophet S.A.W. in all His words and deeds. Since the study of Sirah is indispensable for the fulfilment of this obligation, various initiatives have been taken at the government and private level to promote Sirah studies in Pakistan. One of the important initiatives taken by the government of Pakistan is the establishment of Seerat chairs in almost all major public universities of Pakistan. The Seerat Chairs are specialized academic platforms designed to foster a deeper understanding and appreciation of the exemplary life of the Prophet S.A.W. Their aim is to disseminate His teachings and moral principles amongst students, faculty, and the wider community. These chairs seek to promote the message and understanding of Sirah by carrying out research work, authoring and publishing scholarly books, organising conferences, seminars, extensive lectures, and workshops. However, the lack of human and material resources, along with various other issues, has a significant impact on the performance of Seerat chairs. Through a comprehensive literature review, qualitative data analysis, and interviews with key stakeholders, this study sheds light on the establishment, introduction, and the contribution of Seerat chairs in promoting true Prophetic teachings. The research also analyzes the challenges faced by Seerat Chairs and proposes potential strategies to enhance their contributions to the dissemination of Seerat-e-Tayyiba in the context of contemporary Pakistani society. Ultimately this research seeks to provide insights and recommendations for policy makers and stakeholders interested in furthering the noble cause of promoting Seerat-e-Tayyiba in the realm of higher education in Pakistan.
